Dear Otter Parents and Students,
It is with great pleasure that I serve the Fergus Falls High School and community as the principal. It is an honor to lead the school with a history of success in academics, athletics, and fine arts. True growth and development come when you purposefully develop deep relationships with students, staff, parents, and your community. Our goal is to make sure that ALL voices are heard which then enables our leaders within our high school to make the right decisions for our students and community to grow and develop into great leaders themselves. The focus for FFHS is to make sure we develop a well rounded student who has had multiple opportunities to develop a sense of community, career and college pathway, and exposure off campus in job shadowing which will enable students to make the right choices for their future after high school. As a learning community, we are committed to providing each and every student a rigorous education that challenges them to be their best selves today, tomorrow, and in their future. Together we are better, and the more opportunities we can involve the whole Fergus Falls community, the better we will be as a school.Â
IT IS ALWAYS A GREAT DAY TO BE AN OTTER!!!
Fergus Falls High School Principal
Fergus Falls High School uses a weighted grading system to recognize the increased rigor and academic challenge of select courses. Courses that receive weighted credit include those aligned with college-level expectations, industry certifications, or advanced honors content. These courses demand greater depth of knowledge, critical thinking, and application skills. Weighting reflects the additional time and effort required from students and encourages them to enroll in challenging courses without fear of lowering their GPA.
The weighted courses listed include College in the Schools (CIS), Post-Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO), and designated honors courses. Several Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings, such as Autos I, I, III, Advanced Woods, and Metals III, are also weighted to reflect their advanced, skill-based nature and alignment with industry standards.
Students will have both an unweighted GPA and a weighted GPA recorded on their transcript. However, class rank will be determined using the unweighted GPA. This approach ensures fairness and consistency while still acknowledging the academic rigor of weighted coursework.
We remain committed to regularly reviewing and updating our list of weighted courses. As course offerings evolve and academic expectations shift, we will continue to adjust the list to ensure it reflects current standards and supports student growth and achievement.
